Some of Croatia’s highest property prices are in Dubrovnik on the southern Dalmatian coast.
The Old Town, completely enclosed by walls and forts dating back to the tenth century, has plenty of atmospheric bars and hotels. Dubrovnik is much visited as a stopover by cruise ships and also popular as a weekend destination.
Within a few miles north and south of Dubrovnik it is still possible to find historic stone homes, some beside the water and including a boat berth. Cavtat, a fishing town just three miles from Dubrovnik airport in a sheltered bay is one example.
