Salzburgerland, south of Salzburg, is home to medieval churches and picturesque farming villages as well as Austria’s largest ski area, Ski Amade. This is a farming area uniting 25 towns and villages to create 850km of slopes.
Other favoured ski resorts include Bad Gastein, a spa town with a casino, golf course and striking Belle Époque architecture, Kaprun and Zell am See, all within 90 minutes of Salzburg airport.
Salzburgerland is one of Austria’s most year-round areas. Lakeside Zell am See has a good snow-sure record and a strong summer season while Kaprun has a glacier, a golf course and a large, modern spa. Both Kaprun and Zell am See share a ski pass with neighbouring Saalbach, an especially vibrant mountain biking centre in summer.
