Savills Planners Comment of the North West Regional Spatial Strategy

The North West Regional Spatial Strategy was formally adopted and published on 30th September 2008.

This long-awaited revision to housing provision in the North West is welcomed by Savills Planners in the region. Having had a housing moratorium in place since 2003 when regional guidance was last revised, we are now in a position where housing numbers have doubled, but it is disappointing to note that the numbers for the North West on both occasions have mismatched the housing market.

Jane Dickman, Director of Planning and Regeneration at Savills Manchester office, said: 'For developers and landowners it may not all be bad news in that planning consents in place at the bottom of the market, they can properly demonstrate the scheme's viability would be severely prejudiced if too many demands for additional contributions are requested, yet they could benefit from a valid consent once there is an upturn in the market'.
