Birmingham city centre office take up could reach 750,000 sq ft in 2017, according to Savills latest Spotlight: Birmingham Offices report, marking a 19% rise on the 2016 total of 670,000 sq ft. This will be driven by strong demand from engineering firms and consultants following HS2’s Royal Assent and a HMRC requirement for circa 250,000 sq ft, says the firm.

According to international real estate advisor Savills, overseas investors ploughed £5.8 billion into the UK’s regional commercial property market in 2016,  equating to 29% of total investment outside of London, with Manchester being a particular hot spot.  The firm’s latest Manchester: Office Spotlight report states that overseas investors accounted for 72% of all office acquisitions in the city last year, with deals totalling £489 million.

Speaking at the Scottish Agricultural Arbiters & Valuers Association Conference held in Dunblane on 15th March, Nick Green, Savills Head of Energy in Scotland said: “The Scottish Government is currently consulting on the direction of travel of the energy industry in the UK.  The consultation documents set a challenge of 50% energy consumption from renewables by 2030, and includes a focus on onshore wind, fracking and energy efficiency.  The consultation document restates a number of policy objectives, gauges performance against that of the UK Government as well as setting a number of new policy objectives."
