US retailer Patagonia chooses Manchester for first UK store

23 November 2017

US outdoor clothing retailer Patagonia, represented by international real estate advisor Savills, has acquired its first UK store at 51 King Street in Manchester.

The brand has agreed a new 10-year lease for the basement, ground and first floor of the property, totalling 3,303 sq ft (307 sq m), which will become its eighth European store.  Patagonia’s fit out will preserve the integrity of the historic building while creating a mix of retail space and a destination for community events focused on outdoor sports and supporting the work of local environmental groups and charities.

John Agnew, retail director at Savills, comments: “Patagonia’s plans for 51 King Street encompass a blended approach of retail and other in store experiences which is in line with the expectations of many modern consumers.  The brand has an excellent reputation worldwide and we believe Manchester is well-placed for its entrance to the UK market.”

Ryan Gellert, general manager, EMEA at Patagonia adds: “We’re excited to open our first UK store in Manchester, which we see as a progressive city where design, creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation mix.  As a gateway to climbing, hiking and trail running in the Peak District and surrounding areas, we would like the store to become a hub for both local outdoor sports and environmental communities.”

The landlord, Beech Holdings, was represented by Lambert Smith Hampton.
