Savills Birmingham announces move to 55 Colmore Row and new head of office

Savills has today (4 September) announced plans to relocate its Birmingham office to the top floor of 55 Colmore Row, with all 156 staff moving across from its existing offices at Innovation Court and The Exchange in late 2017.  The firm has agreed a new 15-year lease for 16,956 sq ft (1,575 sq m) at the building, where IM Properties has undertaken a £33 million back-to-frame redevelopment.  Savills building and project consultancy team is managing the fit out of the new office.

The firm has also announced that, as of the end of November, Barry Allen will step down from his role as head of the Birmingham office and handover to  director Simon Farrant.  Barry, who has been head of Savills Birmingham for the last 20 years, will continue his senior role within the firm and expand his national role within its development team, as well as assisting Simon during the period of transition. 

Simon was previously managing director at GBR Phoenix Beard Holdings Ltd for eight years, overseeing its offices in Birmingham, London and Leeds, before the property consultancy’s acquisition by Savills in August 2016.  Prior to this, Simon established the lease consultancy department at Phoenix Beard, which he joined in 1987, before going on to play an instrumental role in the firm’s merger with GBR in June 2010, purchase of Optic Asset Management in January 2015 and subsequent sale to Savills. 

Barry began his career in Birmingham in 1980 and established Savills Birmingham office in 1998, overseeing its growth from the original team of four into one of the firm’s largest offices outside of London.  He has also built a 20-strong cross-sector development team in the Midlands over the last two decades.
