DB Symmetry pushes forward with speculative development in Blyth

Specialist logistics developer db symmetry has announced that it is to speculatively build a new 150,000 sq ft logistics facility, which will be the first unit on the company’s £60million industrial scheme at Symmetry Park Junction 34 A1(M), Doncaster.  Savills is joint letting agent for the scheme with Colliers International and Dove Haigh Phillips. 

In addition to this building, phase one will also see relevant infrastructure works to deliver the 54-acre site, which totals 721,000 sq ft of industrial space, creating 956 new employment opportunities for the area.

This facility forms part of 800,000 sq ft of speculative development, which db symmetry has committed to across the UK in 2017 with other sites in Swindon, Middlewich, Banbury and Bicester. According to Savills’ latest UK warehouse survey, this figure equates to 21% of the total 3.8million sq ft of speculative development set to be delivered this year.

Symmetry Park is strategically located immediately off Junction 34 A1(M) providing high speed road links to Yorkshire/North East, the East Midlands and the UK’s East Coast Ports.  The development will benefit from the current road improvement works ongoing at the Blyth/Bawtry Road Junction and the significant infrastructure works being undertaken by db symmetry, including the installation of full site services and a roundabout to the entrance of the site.

Speaking about the decision to build speculatively, Simon Dixon, Development Director at db symmetry, commented: “We have identified strategic, well-connected sites throughout the UK, where there is a severe lack of logistics space available and in locations where we can work with proactive local authorities. Symmetry Park represents a huge opportunity to create a major logistics destination for this area. With planning now secured, we are now out to tender and aim to appoint a contractor in the coming weeks.”

The project team for the structure includes planners Lichfields; architect Kilmartin Plowman & Partners; Engineers Shepherd Gilmour; Infrastructure Couch Perry & Wilkes; project manager & QS Goodrich Consulting and environmental consultancy Penny Anderson Associates.
