New tenants announced at Thames Valley Science Park

26 January 2017

The University of Reading has announced its first four  tenants at the Gateway Building, which is currently undergoing construction at the new Thames Valley Science Park in Shinfield, Berkshire. Savills and Haslams are the appointed letting agents for the scheme.

Set to open in August this year, the 70,000 sq ft (6,503 sq m) Gateway Building will be home to up to 20 occupiers. Four new tenants are already confirmed including Biointeractions, Clasado, New Zealand Pharma’s Dextra Laboratories and Fairsail. These businesses will join Proton Partners at the park, who will begin construction early this year on its new cancer treatment centre.

Following the ‘topping out ceremony’, a key milestone in the construction of the Gateway Building, plans for phase two of the park are now underway. An application has been submitted to Wokingham District Council for outline planning consent for the remaining 600,000 sq ft (55,741 sq m). The University has also agreed to commission design of a further building on the site, which is expected to be completed in late 2018.

Jon Gardiner, head of office agency at Savills, comments: “Upon completion, Thames Valley Science Park is set to offer a much needed centre of excellence for companies seeking to benefit from collaboration in their research and development functions. The fact that we have already secured a number of tenants well ahead of completion is testament to the strength of demand and the quality of the scheme.”

Dr David Gillham, director of Thames Valley Science Park, adds: “It is great to see such fantastic progress being made on the first phase of the Thames Valley Science Park. We look forward to welcoming our first tenants later this year as our community of innovative, technology-based companies begins to come together.”

The Thames Valley Science Park will eventually deliver approximately 800,000 sq ft (74,322 sq m) of flexible laboratory and office space in a campus style setting designed to encourage collaboration. Once complete, the Science Park will have the potential to provide up to 5,000 new jobs
