Topgolf appoints Savills to tee off UK expansion

Topgolf, the global leader in sports entertainment, has instructed Savills as property adviser as it launches an acquisitions drive across all major UK cities.

With 26 venues serving 13 million guests annually and the world’s largest digital golf audience, Topgolf has become a go-to destination for fun both in-venue and online. The Topgolf games can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels, and the microchipped golf balls score themselves, providing players with instant feedback on each shot’s accuracy and distance. Each venue features climate-controlled hitting bays for year-round play, a chef-driven food and beverage menu, music and HDTVs.

Savills will focus on existing driving ranges in urban locations and also leisure, retail and business parks which provide suitable catchment areas to ultimately secure 10-15 new sites.

Ian Simpson, director at Savills Oxford, comments: “Topgolf has refined its product in the US and is now bringing this knowledge back to the UK and is looking to expand its operations. We have seen increased leisure spend by the consumer over the past few years and we expect this highly social game to be very popular in further UK locations.”

Eight to twelve acres (three to five hectares) of land is needed for Topgolf to accommodate a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m) building, 250 metre long range area and car parking. Freehold or leasehold sites will be considered with a minimum term of 25 years.
